I noticed on many forums that the new technician  is always looking for a h/t...it is a shame that the new operator  has know   idea   what the band has to offer<2 mtrs>..packet...sstv..etc., Shocked not just 2 mtr repeaters and loose interest in a very short time.

Often some ham give bad advise to newcomers, for example an Ht is cheap and just sit on the couch for a QSO. NOT! In my area is spread out and hitting a repeater from a great distance is difficult. Also the heat generated by HT is probably most discouraging to new hams, often they don't return. steve kd5mkv
